Renaissance Commons
REACH CDC Development commissioned various murals to depict Kenton and Vanport City for a new 189-unit rental project named Renaissance Commons. The designs reflect the area's rich and diverse history. Renaissance Commons is located in Portland’s Kenton Neighborhood, which was once a company town. Nearby Vanport (aka Vanport City) was public housing for shipbuilders during WWII. In addition Oregon’s Centennial Exposition and International Trade Fair was also held in the Kenton area.
The lobby mural design and dimensional way-finding signage highlights pays homage to the hardworking individuals of those towns. Hexagons are used to symbolize honeycombs of diligent and mighty bees. A hexagon halftone pattern is used for mural art in the community rooms throughout the building.
